If you like my Abstract Landscape style but are looking for an original piece of art that references a specific photograph, location, time, space or feeling, contact me! We can discuss your request, including dimensions, colours, and any other specifics you might have in mind. I'll also quote you a price and an approximate time frame. Pricing is based on size + any special requests. Some materials might bear an additional cost, in which case this will be reflected in the quote.
There are two kinds of commissions:
1- If you would like a piece similar to one which I have already made, based on one of my photos or my previous inspiration, but perhaps in a different size or including specific colours, I'm happy to go ahead and create the painting with no further ado. Remember that each piece is an original, so I cannot reproduce past works exactly!
Once the piece is finished, you will have the right of first refusal - which means that if you are happy with the final product, you pay me and it is yours. If you decide that the piece is not for you, then you are released from any obligation, and I will list the painting for sale to others. I'll let you know in advance if there is any deviation from this policy in your case - unlikely, although possible if you make very specific requests.
2- If, on the other hand, you would like me to base a painting on a photo which you provide, then I will ask for a 25% downpayment before going ahead, to cover some of the initial costs. I will send you photos of the work at different critical stages, especially near the end, so that you can tell me if I'm headed in the right direction, or if there are any changes you would like to see. The hope is that you will absolutely love the artwork created specifically for you; however, if you do not, I will keep the downpayment. The rationale is that it will be more difficult, perhaps not possible, for me to sell a painting which was created based on someone else's photo and vision.
Big White Sunset Glow, 2022 - 30x15" - DELIVERED COMMISSION
Mixed Media - acrylic and latex paints, liquid asphalt
*Collection of Brenda Campbell*
I've painted variations of this particular Big White, BC, view a number of times. Brenda liked the previous pieces so much that she asked me to create a new painting in the perfect size for her home. During the creative process, I played around with the texture of the trees, and was quite pleased with the results - and luckily, so was Brenda.
Lake of Bays, 2022 - 18x60" - DELIVERED COMMISSION
Mixed Media - acrylic and latex paints, liquid asphalt
*Sutton-Strome Family Collection*
Heather grew up visiting Lake of Bays in Muskoka. She loves that corner of the world so much, that her husband Mark decided to surprise her with a painting of the view from the family cottage for her 50th birthday. He got a photo to me about 9 months in advance of the big day (quite a planner!), and I took on the challenge. At 5 ft, this was, and remains, the widest painting I have taken on - so far. It was a pleasure working with the soft orange sunset tones of this piece.
Night Skiing, View from Mount Washington, 2022 - 12x36" - DELIVERED COMMISSION
Mixed Media - acrylic and latex paints, gesso, liquid asphalt
This painting was commissioned as a surprise wedding gift. The groom himself had posted the spectacular photo which provided the inspiration; his sneaky friends took a screenshot of the image from Facebook and passed it on to me. Since the bride and groom love the outdoor BC lifestyle, the thought was that the happy couple would enjoy a work of art based on their own adventures - I sure hope they do.
Big White, Last Run of the Day, 2022 - 24x16" - DELIVERED COMMISSION
Mixed Media - acrylic and latex paints, gesso, liquid asphalt, spray paint
*Collection of Ryan Nobbs*
Ryan enjoys skiing Big White, accompanied by family and friends, as much as we do. After a recent trip, he contacted me to request a painting that would communicate the feeling of being on the mountain in ski season and enjoying the snow, along with the spectacular mountain views, and just the general feeling of this special place. I decided to try to portray a "last run" moment, from the perspective of a skier pausing to take in the view. By the end of the day, skiers - and boarders - often feel a combination of satisfaction and fatigue after a great day on the slopes. No worries, your second wind, in the form of apres ski, is right around the corner.
California Dreaming, 2022 - 18x36" - DELIVERED COMMISSION
Mixed Media - acrylic and latex paints, liquid asphalt. Painted on cradled birch panel
*Collection of Courtnay Pilypaitis*
This painting of a spectacular sunset is based on an equally spectacular photograph which Courtnay shot near her home in Fresno, California. It was both a challenge and a pleasure to depict those swirls of colour in the sky. I can only say that I look forward to going to visit this location and seeing the amazing landscape and sunsets myself again in the future.
Memories of Crowbush, 2021 - 24x48" - DELIVERED COMMISSION
Mixed Media - acrylic and latex paints, silt, liquid asphalt
*Vroom Family Collection*
Memories of a summer visit to PEI. Kevin enjoyed playing at Crowbush Golf Club so much that Shelley commissioned me to create this painting, based on a photograph which she provided, for his 50th birthday.
Centennial Lake Early Morning, 2021 - 15x30" - DELIVERED COMMISSION
Mixed Media - acrylic and latex paints, liquid asphalt
*Collection of Matthew Pilypaitis*
Matt shot a photo of Centennial Lake from our dock, and I turned it into this painting. We're on an inlet, with a point of land opposite. It's a great place for all members of our blended family to get together and chill.
Reflections on Moraine Lake, 2021 - 15x30" - DELIVERED COMMISSION
Mixed Media - acrylic and latex paints, marble powder, liquid asphalt
*Saturno-Bonenfant Family Collection*
Memories of a summer visit to Alberta. Shannon shared her photo of Moraine Lake and asked me to create a painting so that she could surprise husband Tim and daughter Arabella at Christmas. Of course the amazing turquoise colour of this iconic Canadian lake had to be the star of the show, though I tried to balance the landscape out by emphasizing the textures of the mountains, the trees, and the foreground.
